Sparrow the giraffe of a 35 ton crane, is at Cartbridge wharf on the River Wey, ready to crane 8 ton Minnow off the lorry, up over the seriously pointed railings and down into the river.
A cool young, shade-wearing and tattooed, ex-army crane operator who has just breezed in with this giant vehicle, from Bristol, and arrived on time at 8am, is showing no signs of stress or resentment.
We have done all the measuring, explaining, weighing, insuring, risk-assessing, signing and paying and I have a permit and a licence to prove it.
Chris is here to hold my hand and pick up the pieces in the aftermath.
Being practical, I have brought the new curtains with me, and a basket of yellow pansies and orange chrysanthemums to put on the roof.
I will sit with the boat until evening when Foxglove comes to collect us after work.
